DNV’s ReWind is a digital service designed to streamline the decommissioning and recycling of wind turbines, emphasizing sustainability and cost-effectiveness. By inputting project-specific data, users can automatically generate comprehensive decommissioning plans, detailing optimal methods and locations for recycling turbine components, including blades.
The platform supports modeling for onshore, offshore fixed-bottom, and offshore floating wind farms, enabling operators to assess recyclability, plan end-of-life strategies, and prioritize circularity in their operations.
Pilot implementations of ReWind have demonstrated significant reductions in planning time and costs. For instance, a pilot involving seven clients across 55 projects in seven countries, totaling 7,830 MW, saved an estimated 1,985 workdays and €680,000 compared to traditional non-digital methods.
As the wind energy sector continues to expand, with many turbines approaching the end of their operational life, ReWind offers a timely solution to manage decommissioning efficiently, reduce environmental impact, and support the industry’s commitment to sustainability.
